Wordless Wednesday

JUST SAY NO- Brio, K'nex, Lincoln Logs

Here is an email I'm composing to B/K'n/LL: Let me start off by saying, I am a very disgruntled consumer. I won't lie. I recently contacted your company, via phone, in regards to the origin of your toys. I was more than dismayed when I was told that some of your toys are manufactured in China, as I & many others are under the (mistaken) impression that your toys are European made. Quite frankly, I don't care what your standards are when it come to Chinese factories. Mattel said they had stringent policies that China was supposed to follow, as have Hasbro & many other "reputable" companies involved in large scale recalls. However, what upset me even more was the fact that when I was offered an email containing "strict" policies the Chinese factories are "supposed" to be following, I never received it. I've been checking both my inbox & my spam folder. How can you be so sure that the Chinese factories are doing their jobs, whe...

My Homekeeping Binder

This is the spine. I printed out an outline of the words " Joy in ALL Things ." I was out of colour ink, hence the colouring. LOL The cover... I chose a picture by Paula Vaughn (she has SUCH beautiful work, many of them primitive & in keeping with my desire for simplicity). It has the title of the binder, along with a Bible verse I found. The Bible verse represents how I feel about my job as a keep of my home. " Unless the Lord builds the house, they labour in vain who build it. Ps. 127:1 " Inside the spine, I have the Bible verse " And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. Gen 2:18 " This helps me remember that I am an help meet to the Hubba! Next is a picture of the open binder, spread out. In the left pocket I keep things like Hubba's work schedule, extra paper & misc things that are very temporary. I start my binder with several sheets of blank notebook paper. If I need a scrat...

Made where?

I've been doing a LOT of research finding toys NOT made in China. I've been googling, reading news stories, studying packages & calling companies in regards to this "epidemic," of sorts. I know there's a lot of controversy over this. I also know that just because items are made somewhere other than China doesn't necessarily make them safe. HOWEVER, the majority of toy recalls lately have been "Made in China." I feel that if we can make our voices heard on this issue, it will scream to other companies that junk will not be tolerated. Here is a list of 20 companies/sites that make toys NOT in China. Be aware of labels though, as sometimes country of origin may change. I'm also human & would advise you err on the side of caution. Ask before ordering online or from a catalog. Read the boxes when you're in a store and holding something from your child's wish list. I don't mind if you use this list elsewhere, but please link back to...

I just love comments, don't you?

No matter how long they are, SHANNON!!! LOL To answer all your lovely questions: I'm glad hubby's ok! I hope alls well with you. I hope you get 100% better soon! The pictures were great! I love the tub one! Just a little head peaking out. First of all, thank you for both of those comments!!! I didn't know you homeschooled! What do you use? This year is our first year of pre-boxed curr. If you scroll down a little more than half HERE you'll see what we've chosen this year. It's a lot, so it's easier to link than try to type it all out again, LOL... Do you have other means for heating? Thankfully it's not in the middle of winter, unless you are somewhere warm. I'll be finding out soon enough were you live.:) We have a fireplace, but it's gas, so doesn't emit muc h heat. We live in GA, so it's not too horribly cold, plus we have the oven, dryer, heat cycle on the dishwasher, plenty to add heat to the house. Of course when it's 7 in th...

A day in the life of.....

I guess it's actually a week in the life of since it's been just over a week since I've blogged last (yes, we'll count the tag as post, LOL). Been sorta busy, as usual. Hubba was in a car accident Oct. 30th. He's fine, but it cracked both the front & rear bumpers of the car & did some damage to the paint on the back end. He was sitting at a light when someone slammed into the back of him, ramming him into the car in front. The car in the front left because "there's no damage to my car." It's amazing how quickly people will leave the scene of an accident when they don't have insurance or they've got a warrant out for their arrests, huh? Of course that's only speculation, but according to my Hubba, the guy was anxious to go & drove off before Hubba even had a CHANCE to get the colour, make, etc or the tag number. Yeah, sounds like a guilty conscience to me. So anyway, other than a stiff & sore body, he's fine. And we a...
