Top 10

I decided to wait a little while today and see what the day brought me before posting my daily 10 blessings. It always seems as though I post them in the morning, or at least earlier in the day and within a few hours, I have more. So today I waited and sure enough, there are more! LOL 1- My DH who is at work, as he does everyday to take care of us 2- My kids, who while haven't been as good as they can be, have had a better day than most 3- My dear friend in NZ 4- boiled eggs 5- relatively good health 6- 2 days til DH's promotion is official 7- A glorious and warm day today! 8- Our plants that seem to be doing fairly well 9- canned spags sauce in the pantry 10- And last but never EVER least- My God.....

We are loved!

So I'm thinking we didn't get any mail today because at 12 there still wasn't any mail in the box. She's usually here around 10:30. About 12:30-ish the doorbell goes. It was the mail. A different person. And boy did I cry when I opened the pkg from Miss Marlene. I don't know what I did to get so lucky to have a friend like her, but we love her so much. She sent pasties and bicuits (cookies for the American ear! LOL), twisties (she knows how much Keenan loves these), milo bars (she knows how much I love these *giggles*), marshmallow type candies, crunchy bars (even better than the milos!), pear fruit paste, 2 little kiwi figures, postcards of NZ scenery (beautiful! Absolutely beut!), articles from the recent volcano eruption, and a large canvas map of NZ. Oh and she remembered me saying Sebastion said he wanted a tiki charm, so she sent THREE!!!! Oh and a cooking mag from over there. The boys were soooo excited when I held up the pkg. It's like grand parents com...

A rare photo opportunity

Do you have any idea how hard it is to get 3 boys to look in the same general direction?

And my skabetty jars

I think my day has finally come to an end

Well, I have successfully (I think) canned 4 jars HM spags sauce. Of course, the stockpot was abut a 1/2 inch too short for my jars so MASSIVE flooding everywhere (well not flooding but LOTS of water spillage). I also managed to burn one of my drip pans, ARGH! AND my yoghurt was a failure. But that's ok, I was making one of the batches for yoghurt popsicles, so it'll still freeze ok! AND...... I put too much yeast in my bread (but lemme tell ya! It was soooo good!). LOL.... I'm having a most disastrous day today. I'm surprised we're all still alive. Hehe..... DH says I'm awfully perky and happy for someone who's had the day I have. I have also skipped dessert!

NONONONONO!!!!!!!

OK, lemme just tell you. Cleaning the boys' bathroom was on my do list today. I guess when it wasn't done by 4, God was telling my to get off my lazy hump and JUST DO IT! The toilet overflowed.... ergh! So now that that's handled....... I had a comment: Wow! Lots done today!!!! You go, girl! Would you mind posting your gatorade recipe and yoohoo recipe? Were you up before the sun again today that you were able to get so much done? J The gatorade recipe actually came from PH . It's as follows: 4 1/2 cups sugar 1 T. salt 3 pkgs unsweetened lemon lime or orange koolaid mix 4 pkgs unsweetened lemonade koolaid mix --> Mix together til well combined. Use 1/3 cup for every quart of cold water. Shake or stir well. The yoohoo I made by accident one day. I was trying to figure out a way to make reconstituted milk a little more desirable to the kiddos. So I added chocolate to the liquid form and voila! HM yoohoo. And yes it tastes just like the real stuff, even though I don...

I have a feeling I'll be posting a lot today!

LOL... First off, I'm excited. I got my first rebate check that I've done in a LONG time. $10 from Kimberly-Clark. I had to buy a certain amount of things to get it, but they were all things I buy anyway, so yayhoo! I have been BUSY today! So far I have gotten dinner out to thaw, made sweet iced tea, 2 jugs gatorade (HM of course!), a jug HM yoohoo, a quart of dry milk (for cooking & baking), yoghurt is going on the dehydrator, have baked a batch of muffins (which we slathered with marg and gobbled over half the batch down- well actually the kids did, I only had 1.5- hehe), spaghetti sauce is a'simmerin' (and boy does it smell great!). I saw DH off to work this morning with a bunch of nummies and hope to get more done for his freezer at work. Will be making lots more muffins for the freezer, some bacon and egg breks, brek tortillas, and hopefully some semi-HM mater soup. I'll post the recipe later! I'm am so excited today for some reason. I guess I'm rea...

So far I have the fabulous meal for the family and have been up since JUST before light today. I had coffee made and DH's coffee made when he came up. I have been working on my verses. Just another manic Monday

...to quote and 80's song. hehe..... GREAT NEWS! I spoke to my Mum this morning and they were in the process of signing him out as of 9am. Y-day they were planning on sending him home w/ breathing treatments but apparently they won't need to! My Mum sounds soooo relieved. Thank you ALL for your wonderful prayers. On another note, my daily 10! 1- That my brother is getting better! 2- That my DH gave up a few hours of alone time to take us out and about with him 3- That the kids behaved a little whilst we were out 4- We are blessed to have food, tonite it's grilled London broil, mashed taters, beans, cob corn and bicuits 5- That my true friends are willing to overlook my horrible typing skills 6- That DH and I were able to get past a spat last night 7- I got my plants in the ground 8- Butter pecan cupcakes with whipped cream cheese frosting 9- Shweppe's raspberry ginger ale 10- GOD

Go ahead and tell me how strange this is!

LOL.... Lunchtime and I haven't gotten my grocery shopping done (have to run to Ingles tonite to finish!). So it dawns on me to make some drop bikkits with the Master Mix. So I'm deciding on add-ins, look in the fridge and wallah! Some leftover corn jumps out at me. OK, not literally, it hasn't been in there THAT long! I'd say about 1/4 a can's worth. I mix it up in my batter, along with some (close to a teaspoon) onion powder. Talk about yummy! I baked them til cooked thru then broiled them til lightly brown....... Mmmmmm....... Ona nother note, I completely forgot to tell you about one of my accomplishments a few days ago. I decided to scrub the lip of our dining table. Now keep in mind this table was given to us, almsot as dark of an edge as was on there. BUT I was completely amazed at the difference!

Counting the small things in life

I've come to realise how absolutely I am. Yes, there is still so much I take for granted, but I try to make a conscious effort to be thankful and grateful everyday for everything. Yesterday was one of those kick in the guts moments when I realised what I have. I was supposed to take cupcakes to the church for the Feed-the-hungry program they do at the Good News House on Thursdays. Well, I got sick Tuesday, have been a nervous wreck about joining the church this coming Sunday, found out my brother may have been going into the hospital (which he is now) and DH was uber upset about his day at work, yada yada yada. And.... well..... I forgot . I sat down to eat dinner and kept thinking that I had yummy warm food, a place to sleep and a wonderful family full of and I failed someone that has so much less than I. And I couldn't eat. So PLEASE count your blessings, no matter how small! There is ALWAYS someone that has it worse than you somewhere out there! On a side note, if you woul...

And boy is it pitiful! I felt ICKY today. I ended up taking a LONG nap. It felt so good, but I've been rather blah all evening. DH decided we'd order pizza (I love that man!). All I got done was a smidge of laundry, and a couple piles of papers gone thru. I need to clean the fridge bright and early as it's trash day tomorrow. I however wanted to leave you on this note. I post this various places quite often, but if not for you than for me, a reminder is ALWAYS welcome! God Bless and til tomorrow!! Proverbs 31:10-31 (King James Version) 10Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. 11The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. 12She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. 13She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. 14She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar. 15She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household,...

Oy my aching back......

So as if that time of the month wasn't bad enough (yes folks, I'm PMS'ing, gimme chocolate or gimme death!), today was the perfect day to start digging our plot for corn . SO... I dug, by hand, as in no tiller, a 4X6 plot. Doesn't sount too bad.... Until you realise this is full-blown Georgia red clay, and damp at that. And full of rocks. And oy my aching back! LOL BUT it is near done. The hard part, anyway, is finished. This weekend it is supposed to rain , so I needed to get out there today. Especially seeing as how several of our corn plants are already close to an inch tall. Yes- almost an inch tall, and yes, the seeds we JUST planted Monday ! Otherwise, I've gotten some Master Mix made with a litle help from my Master Mixer! LOL:

Mmmmmm.....

I got a wild hair to start baking last nite at 8pm. The fruits of that labour produced a loaf of Miss Maggie's Peanut Butter Bread , as well as her Donut Muffins . I am sending my beloved off to work today with nummy treats to put in his freezer. I sent him with a toaster oven on Monday so hopefully he'll get some use out of it. I'll be back soon to catch you up on other goings-on.

Nothin' says Spring.....

Like playin' in the dirt....... Today we planted: 26- Corn 4- Grape tomato 6- Beefsteak tomato 6- Pumpkin 3- Heirloom tomato 3- Cukes 3- Chili peppers 3- Jalapeño 6- Cantaloupe 6- Green Bell Pepper 3- Black Krim tomato 3- Orange banana tomato For a total of SEVENTY TWO plants today and 80 so far TOTAL!!!!!

Off to church.....

Hot, fresh and buttery

The product of today's work. We call it lunch! Oatmeal Wheat Bread 1 ¾ c boiling water 1 c quick-cooking oats ½ c molasses ¼ c shortening ¼ c orange juice 1 ½ t salt 2 pkgs (¼ oz each) active dry yeast ½ c warm water (110°-115°) 2 ½ c whole wheat flour 3-3 ½ c all purpose flour Melted margarine or butter ***************** --> In large mixing bowl, combine boiling water, oats, molasses, shortening, orange juice and salt; let stand til warm (110°-115°). In small bowl dissolve yeast in warm water; add to oat mixture. Add whole wheat flour and beat til smooth. Add enough all purpose flour to form a soft dough. Turn onto a floured board; knead til smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes. Place in greased bowl, turning once to grease top. Cover and let rise in warm place til doubled, about 1 hour. Punch dough down. Shape into two loaves; place in greased loaf pans. Cover and let rise til doubled, about 45 minutes. Bake at 350° for 40 minutes. Remove from pans; brush with melted butter...

Do you like it too?

I've decided a redecorating was in order. So it has been done. I hope you like it. And I hope it is easy on the eyes. Please let me know what you think!

The proposed container garden

I was asked the following: " Kayla-where did you get your icing tubs? That's a great idea! Have you decided what you're going to grow? Jennilee " I went to one of the local grocery stores and asked the ladies at the bakery for their empty icing buckets. Wal-mart also has them, as do Kroger, Dunkin' donuts; basically any store that has a bakery. You can also ask fast food restaurants for their pickle and condiment buckets. Since you aren't actually storing food in the bucket, paint buckets from Lowe's, Home Depot and other hardware stores would work adequately as well. Don't use buckets however that have had paint IN them. Since I only had 8 yogurt cups y-day, the Elders and I decided on the following: Sebastion- 1 cup heirloom maters Tristen- 1 cup heirloom maters as well These are THEIR plants and they are responsible for taking care of them. This is done daily now as part of their h'sch'ing day. The other cups include: 2- heirloom maters 1- j...

It's about time!

I've been trying to update for a little while and blogger's been having some issues. So here I am, finally! Today I had a chance to work in the dirt a little. Not much, but it beginneth! YAY! I cleaned up the flowerbed a bit- raked out the leaves, weeded and made sure the trellis was sturdy, and aerated. Y-day I drilled holes in some large icing buckets. I will be using them for container gardening. I moved them to the back porch today. I swept off the drive. This morning we planted some seeds in yogurt cups. They adorn the kitchen window sill. *fingers crossed they sprout well!* Today I've also gotten 2 loads laundry done, one in the dryer and one in the washer, swept the kitchen floor, homeschooled and cleaned the computer keyboard. Bread is going in the bread machine and dinner is going in the crockpot. God is GREAT!

A Praise, a Prayer Request & other things

I found out earlier that a friend of mine, that was afraid she may have sinus tumours, does not. I thank God to have spared my friend. I love her dearly! I also have a small prayer request. I am having a bit of trouble with an issue here lately. If you would just mention my name in prayer, He knows what it is I need/want. And this is more of a want issue. On to other things, strange night it is tonite. It's 12:18 EST and I am not asleep. I'm not in bed either. Obviously..... I kept hearing something on the back porch. Robby and I figured it was an animal. I finally fell asleep after checking a couple of times, only to be woken again by the same noise. Shortly after I awoke, I hear Keenan on the baby monitor. Just a slight fraction of a second fuss and then a minute later a cough. I felt something was not right, and kept thinking of all the times he's fallen off the bed. So I get up to check him..... Yup, he's on the floor. I place him back in his bed, I go upstairs to v...

Where oh where does our tax money go?

Where oh where can it be? With charges for entry at our beautiful parks, and roads made for safari? O me o my. We set out for a fun-filled family day today. We tried The Family Fun Center and they didn't open for another 2 1/2 hours. *sigh* I originally wanted to go picnic at the dam in Dahlonega but the Hubster said no. So strike 1...... We go ahead and go to The House of Lin Chinese restaurant and osh on their buffet treats. Then we decide to head out to Little Hall Park in Gainesville. They've begun charging an entry fee there as well. They have inmates go in to clean up the trash and they rarely have to pave them. There's nothing to pay for if you ask me. BUT......... I also think, shouldn't the taxpayer's dollar be going toward this? It's doggone sure that it doesn't go to the roads. The school sysytems, etc. I'm sure the taxpayer dollar is paying for some sleazy politician's hookers, driver and drugs. While his wife sits at home thinking he...

Rec'd in an email today......

I will be back to blog later. I have been feeling better, so I'll have news. But first I want to share this touching email with you! When I meditated on the word Guidance, I kept seeing "dance" at the end of the word. I remember reading that doing God's will is a lot like dancing. When two people try to lead, nothing feels right. The movement doesn't flow with the music, and everything is quite uncomfortable and jerky. When one person realizes that, and lets the other lead, both bodies begin to flow with the music. One gives gentle cues, perhaps with a nudge to the back or by pressing Lightly in one direction or another. It's as if two become one body, moving beautifully. The dance takes surrender, willingness, and attentiveness from one person and gentle guidance and skill from the other. My eyes drew back to the word Guidance. When I saw "G: I thought of God, followed by "u" and "i". "God, "u" and "i" dance....

Stuck in a rut.....

Yes, such is the story of my life lately. I got sick last week and have since been blah. The kids are aggravating. I'm not getting anywhere on the house, homeschooling, anything. I made jarred cakes y-day and that wasn't as satisfying to me as things of that nature usually are. I had a fleeting moment of desire to start composting. I printed stuff, read and read some more. I asked questions on PH. The next day I looked at my jar of so-far-collections and asked myself "What am I doing?" The jar still sits there. I don't feel like cooking. I've been praying, but it's not helping. I want to cry. Just sit down and bawl my eyes out. Oh wait.... I have done this. More than once. Laundry piles are at an all-time high. So's the dust. I'm reading blogs that are usually extremely inspirational to me. I can read certain blogs and the inspiration lasts for days. I'm lucky if they last 10 minutes anymore. Forums have been slow, not much to inspire there eit...

Sweet.....

One of my fave pics lately->
