Linda has tagged me! The rules of the game get posted at the beginning. Each player answers the questions about themselves. At the end of the post, the player then tags 6 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog. Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve posted your answer. a) What was I doing 10 years ago? Hm... 10 years ago, was a very messed up time for me. It was a pre-reborn Christian time in my life. I was doing a lot of things I shouldn't have been. I had a 1 1/2 yer old baby boy. I had just given birth to another boy, who was conceived out of a criminal act (not criminal on my part. I was a victim) and has given him up for adoption. Yes, I CHOSE LIFE!!! Even before I loved the Lord as I do now, I knew what was right! b) What are 5 things on my to-do list for today: Laundry Make bed Pack a few boxes Vacuum Get dinner in the crockpot c) Snacks I enjoy: Chocol...

Subway DISCRIMINATES against homeschoolers!!!

Subway is holding a contest open to any of us that DO NOT homeschool. As per their website: "2. ELIGIBILITY . Contest is open only to legal residents of the United States who are currently over the age of 18 and have children who attend elementary, private or parochial schools that serve grades PreK-6. No home schools will be accepted . Employees and members of their families of Scholastic and Subway, their parents, subsidiaries, and affiliates, and their advertising, promotion and production agencies are not eligible to enter. Void where prohibited or restricted by law." WOW!!! If you are of the mind that we as HS'ers have as many rights as those in government institutions, you'll understand why I will no longer be enjoying Subway sandwiches. Neither will my Hubba. He's already let me know. He threw in a few choice words, which if I repeat will make my blog no longer family friendly, LOL. Someone on another blog brought up the fact that the equipment is a large q...

Prayers, changes, a score and other things....

THE SCORE I posted an ad on Craigslist asking for canning jars. I rec'd 3 responses before we found out we MAY be moving. Out.of.state. One was from a "woman" (I say woman because I googled her email name & came up with a lady on a dating website or the name on pages in foreign languages) who was so very evasive. She wouldn't even tell me how many jars she had, but in both of her emails she prompted me to call her & she'd "tell me how many she had," giving her phone number. I quickly deleted both emails after rec'ing the 2nd, very evasive one **creepy**. The other was for 400 jars **EEK**. I WANT them, but with the possible move (which I 'll get to), I'm holding off. I actually tried to get the other guy that said he has 80-100 to hold off, but when he said 8/$1 I was SOLD!!! Now granted, they are the Atlas jars, 24oz, from the Classico spaghetti sauce brand. He also had a box of lids & bands that were brand new. How can a jar-ad...

Wordless Wednesday

Making yoghurt cheese

I have yoghurt cheese going in the fridge right now. Here's how I'm making it. You need: 1 jar of homemade yoghurt Strainer Something to catch the whey A coffee filter Sit your strainer atop your "catcher." Put your coffee filter inside the strainer. Pour your yoghurt into the coffee filter. Sit everything together inside your refrigerator. The longer you let it drain, the harder your cheese will be. Your cheese is similar to cream cheese! If it's a bit too tart, add some sweetener (honey, sugar, nectar, etc). Use it to spread on thick toast, bagels or even tortillas (the kids love the last one!).

Making yoghurt on a dehydrator

I made yoghurt yesterday. I was planning on it anyway, but I also had some soured milk that I thought I'd try for the occasion. Here is the "recipe" I used & how I did it: 4 cups slightly soured skim milk 1-1 1/3 cups dry milk powder 3-4 T local honey (optional) 2 T store bought yoghurt with live cultures Bring soured milk & milk powder ALMOST to a boil. Remove from heat before it begins to boil. (you will see tiny bubbles begin to form around the edge of the milk surface). Add yoghurt. Mix well. Add honey, mix well. Pour hot milk mixture into clean mason jars. I like the wide mouth for several reasons. One of those reasons- to make yoghurt cheese (that's my next post!!). Set 3 trays on your dehydrator & turn it on. Set your jars on the top try. Lay dehydrator lid on top, and drape a hand towel over the whole thing. Let this run for about 6-8 hours. Your mixture will thicken as the time goes on. It is naturally sweetened with the honey, but feel free to ...
